Rahul Deshmukh

President: July 2017 –

Rahul Deshmukh from IIT Bombay, Mumbai, is an active editor from Marathi Wikipedia. He is among the top 10 contributors on Marathi Wikipedia and also an admin since 2011. He is founder admin of Marathi Wiki source.

Being an engineer by profession, Rahul's focus is to apply technological solutions to Wikimedia projects for better utilization contributor’s time for intellectual and creative work, and minimizing the labour work by use of automation. He is an advisor to Encyclopaedia Board, Government of Maharashtra. He is also a member of Government of Maharashtra's Language Advisory Board (Bhasha Sallagar Samiti). He was actively involved in making the Marathi Vishvakosh copyright free for public use.

Some of his major contributions include porting an offline version of Marathi Wikipedia on Android Tablet (Aakash), development of web font for Marathi Wikipedia, Wikipedia Arm based solution for Net-book, and pre-installation of it on Government of India Netbooks distributed to youth in rural India under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Apart from delivering lectures, speeches, interviews and conducting academies, he organized and organizes many events and activities for Marathi Wikipedia on regular basis. He is the mastermind behind the Marathi Wikipedia Hackathon, conducted annually every year at IIT Bombay, is the one of its kind Hackathon from India.

He was elected to the Wikimedia India Executive Committee in April 2017, and currently serves as the President.

Sanket Oswal

Sanket Oswal is a prominent student leader who was elected as president to represent State of Rajasthan at Indian Student Parliament. There he was responsible for politically sensitive & high profile grant making, student affairs & government relations.

Sanket's vision at Wikimedia India is dedicated in creating more awareness about Wikimedia related projects by expanding the Indian Wikipedians base & to greater engagement with the community at large. In his current role , his specific focus is to help the chapter with 12A registration & getting 80G status. He believes that his exposure in the field of Accounting & Taxation Laws combined with his exposure on Wiki Projects will help the Wikimedia India Chapter in finance & legal related matters.

Outside of Wikimedia, Sanket has worked in public finance & research. He also has 3 years of experience in Taxation Laws and has served on an array of advisor, both non-profit & for-profit organizations. His ongoing interest includes Open Source Polices in Government, Access to Free Knowledge in rural India, educational inequity & educational politics.

He says that his long run vision is to remove the word 'illiterate' from the history of Indian civilization by eradicating information poverty through digital interventions.

He was elected to the Wikimedia India Executive Committee in November 2014, and currently serves as the Treasurer.

Yohann Thomas

Yohann Thomas is a Mechanical Engineer, currently working in Hyderabad.

He developed a keen interest in Wikipedia after being amazed on how in 2008 the Mumbai Attack Article constantly evolved as the attack progressed. Since then he has been contributing to English Wikipedia. He had his first exposure to the Pune Community in 2012 at Wikipedia Takes Pune. Currently working in Hyderabad, he is an active Hyderabad Community member. He has been a Chapter Member since 2013.He successfully organized the Wikipedia Workshop Pune in January 2014 which was part of the Wikipedia Anniversary Celebrations.

He is passionate about building strong local communities, which the very foundation of the India Chapter is built on.

He was elected to the Wikimedia India Executive Committee in November 2014, and currently serves as the Secretary.

Krishna Chaitanya Velaga

Krishna Chaitanya Velaga

Krishna Chaitanya Velaga is an undergrad Mechanical Engineering student from Andhra Pradesh. He is pursuing graduation from Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology, Guntur, and is an NCC cadet.

Contributing since December 2014, Krishna has been one of the most active English Wikipedians from India. He predominantly contributes to the Indian military history domain. He holds the credit of several good, A-class, featured content and also the first good topic from Indian military history on en Wiki. He exercises several user rights including being a License reviewer on Wikimedia Commons. He was awarded the title of Military history newcomer of the year for 2016, and was the Featured Wikimedian of the Month for January 2017. His vision is to the strengthen the grass roots of Wikimedia Movement in India by serving with the Chapter and simultaneously spread the concept of free access to knowledge among the educational community.

Apart from Wikimedia, Krishna is an avid photographer, and contributes to various news websites and magazines in scope of warfare and military history. He believes in multidisciplinary approach.

He was elected to the Wikimedia India Executive Committee in April 2017.

Suyash Dwivedi

Suyash Dwivedi is an Electronics engineer. He started contributing to Wikipedia and its sister projects since September 2013 mainly on Commons and than also on Hindi Wikipedia. He successfully organized Hindi Wikipedia Conference in January 2017, and 'Wikipedia Education program' With Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal. He is leading various outreach and GLAM projects and also working hard to get more and more people to join Hindi and other Indic language Wikipedias and its sister projects.

He was elected to the Wikimedia India Executive Committee in April 2017.

Viswanathan Prabhakaran

Viswanathan Prabhakaran is an engineer, project manager and technology consultant by profession. After acquiring his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Government Engineering college, Thrissur in 1986, he initiated his career in computer industry. Keeping pace with the rapid evolution of technology, he has aligned his career path with industrial and business automation, communications, laboratory science etc. finally culminating into advanced biomedical engineering.

He has traveled extensively both within and outside India and has lived and worked with a vast mixture of cultures and communities. He was earlier a board member of Wikimedia India from September 2012 to November 2014 and had served earlier as Treasurer.

At present, he is living in his hometown in Thrissur, Kerala, occasionally traveling, spending most of his time for voluntary social causes and the Wikimedia movement. He is one of the earliest Wikipedians from Indic language communities.

He was elected to the Wikimedia India Executive Committee in April 2017.
