Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Wikimedia Talk: Fostering Wikipedia using technology, opportunities and challenges
Rahul Deshmukh, President, Wikimedia India was invited to deliver a talk on Wikimedia projects at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in November 2018. The talk focussed on different technologies used in Wikipedia and sister projects and explains the opportunities and challenges to participate in technology development. It included an overview of some of the technologies like ORES the machine learning service, Wikidata, Wikipedia mobile technology, Wiki API, MediaWiki and offline Wikipedia etc, followed by few case studies and demonstration based on our technology work focused towards Indic language Wikipedia essentials.
WikiCite 2018 was a 3-day conference, summit, and hack day dedicated to the vision of creating an open repository of bibliographic data to support the citation and fact-checking needs of Wikimedia projects, and possibly, to serve as an open infrastructure for research, education, and information quality across the web. The event was hosted at the David Brower Center in Berkeley, California, The United States of America, November 27-29, 2018.

Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru Photography Contest
Wikimedia India (WMIN) has partnered with IISc Bangalore to organise a Wikimedia commons-based photography contest as a part of Indian Institute of Science annual science and cultural festival, Pravega 2019. To participate one is required to upload images on Wikimedia Commons and submit image links on event portal on Pravega 2019 website. A participant can submit a maximum of five images.
Wikipedia Asian Month 2019
Wikipedia Asian Month is an annual Wikipedia contest focused on promotion of Asian content in different language Wikipedia. Each participating community runs a month-long online edit-a-thon every November at their local language Wikipedias and create new content about Asia except their own country.As a part of friendship and culture exchange of Wikipedia Asian Community, participants who create at least four articles receive a special Wikipedia Postcard from another participating community.
Copyright workshop: South India
A workshop on Copyright and free licenses was conducted by CIS-A2K on 19 evening-21 October 2018 at Bangalore. Wikimedians from South Indian states of (who are currently staying in) Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana participated in the workshop. User:Yann was be the primary trainer of the workshop.

Varun's journey started on Wikipedia by editing articles on Indian Music. He has a large collection of Music DVDs and to catalog his music library, he started searching for information on the Internet. When he couldn't find all the information at one place he started editing and putting the same on Wikipedia. This turned him into a Wikipedian.
Varun presently works for Military Engineer Services and is based in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Hockey World Cup 2018 Edit-a-thon
Hockey World Cup 2018 Edit-a-thon was an on-site edit-a-thon planned in collaboration with the Sports Department of Government of Odisha, The Centre for Internet and Society and Odia Wikimedia User group came up with a goal to improve and create articles on the sports of hockey in Indian languages.
Wiki Women for Women Wellbeing 2018
This was month long edit-a-thon for women by women where different Indian Communities and Maithili Communities of Nepal are coming together for a joint cause of creating content related to women health issues and also to explore women leadership. As a part of the edit-a-thon, there were also several offline events being organised.
