Jayanta Nath

Short Profile (including past involvment in Wikimedia activities in not more than 100 words):

I am a 38 year old Wikipedian, by profession consultant Civil Engineer, from kolkata, West Bengal. I am currently hold SIG chair for Bengali Wikipedia from India . I am part of the wikimedia community for last 4 years. I am a active editor of Bengali wikipedia for last 7 years. I am a main organiser of about all wikipedia workshops an d Kolkata Photowalk in Kolkata & surroundings. I was also a part of the wiki-academy organized in Kolkata. I also participated and represented Bengali community in WikiConference India 2011 organizer committee member & Noteworthy Wikimedian Recognition Jury member. Position Statement/Letter of intent (in not more than 200 words):

If I get elected to EC, allowing me to widen my opportunities to develop the Chapter and Wikimedia movement in India, in my thought, there is no difference between chapter and community, the chapter is just a formal organization of community members. I believe that I do understand the spirit of freedom of knowledge and very much aware of Wikimedia movement in India. Community can surely rely on me for my impartial and truthful behavior. I would like to support outreach activities throughout India and Eastern Indian. I will also help the chapter to fulfill with Wikimedia movement in short-term and long-term goals.

Short Profile (including past involvement in Wikimedia activities in not more than 100 words):

  • My First Edit has been in June 2006, I have been part of the Wikipedia movement since last 7 years
  • Was the Secretary, First National WikiConference in Mumbai in 2011[1]
  • Avignyata Inc. which my digital marketing, consulting startup was the sponsor and support at the WikiConference India for social media[2]
  • I was part of organizing team for Wikipedia Women's Workshop in Mumbai with the objective being to get maximum participation for editing by women. We had an astounding attendance and participation of 70+ women learning, editing, discussing topics which core to their interest.[3]
  • Taking out time, from my entrepreneurial venture, have conducted Wikipedia editing workshops at VJTI and other places.
  • Have been organizing, attending the Wikipedia meetups, held in Mumbai

Position Statement/Letter of intent (in not more than 200 words):

  • Want to help the Wikimedia movement in India, where I want bring in the languages to start contributing, editing Wikipedia their individual languages.
  • Want to help expand the Wikimedia India Chapter by carrying out fund raising activities and burden less on the efforts on volunteers to raise finances, rather help each of them to focus on their main activity of contributing to Wikimedia projects.
  • Given the Background that i have of teaching, training and speaking at Wikipedia events and others, have realized the importance of giving hands on training on editing articles and sharing basic principles of Wikipedia, with this knowledge would like to propose more academies on education institutes.
  • Foresee having own office and employees that will spreadhead the Wikimedia movement in India

I am Nikhil Kawale , pursued B.E. in computer engineering from University of Pune. I have been part of Wikipedia since 2009. As a part of Wikipedia, i have attended many workshops and events conducted in Pune. Part of Organizing Team of Wikipedia Summit Pune held in January 2013.Currently working on "Wiki Loves Food" project. An active TED translator. I was co-head of college Website-Development committee.

Wikimedia India can grow in only way of awareness, not only in the students but also the corporate people can spend a small amount of time from their schedule to edit articles on Wikipedia. Awareness in the part of India like east India where awareness is required. Focussing more on fundraising and increasing number of volunteers.

  • I am making efforts to take wikipedia on regional level and will encourage contribution from all india regional language.
  • In India every year 750,000 student pass engineering, I will target this population in college and encourage them to contribute in wikipedia. it will be a huge pool of talent available for wikipedia as well as these students will get hands on practical experience on various technologies.
  • India is worlds largest software and services industry,and boast of having few of worlds finest talents in software and programming,but people don’t know how to use/handle Wikipedia project or technology and that the reason why India has only 10% of wikipedia editors.
  • I will encourage participation in wikipedia from india which will enhance scale of operation of wikipedia in india, will help improving finances of community.

I am 23 yr old, a Mechanical Engineer,currently pursuing my MBA from Symbiosis,Pune.I have been a part of the Wikipedia movement since 2008.Being a part of it for 5 years, I have learnt so much.I have attended many Wikipedia workshops & events conducted in & around Pune. I was also part of the Organizing team for the Wikipedia Summit Pune held in January 2013.Currently I am working on 'Wiki Loves Food ' Project.'WIki Loves food' is on similar grounds to 'Wiki loves Monuments', wherein pictures of food of different Cuisines will be showcased.

I want Wikimedia India to Grow in a Sustainable way.First of all I want to increase Volunteer base by conducting more awareness workshops.Then, once a sizable volunteer team is made, we should have more workshops conducted on a national level. This will create publicity, which will make our work easier during Donation drives.In this activity, the help of the whole Indian Community is required.Only when the whole community stands united,will Wikimedia India grow.This is where i want to be a facilitator. To bring India on the world stage, it is very important to conduct a successful Wikimania event.That will be my aim.
