Non-financial requirements

We do not need any additional support from the Wikimedia India Chapter regarding the travel and accommodation other than the grant as requested above. The following logistics will be provided by the IIT Kharagpur SpringFest organizers. This is enshrined in the MoU signed between IIT Kharagpur SpringFest 2015 organizers and Wikimedia India Chapter.

  • The pickup and drop from Kharagpur Railway Station to IIT Kharagpur campus will be arranged by IIT Kharagpur SpringFest organizers.
  • The accommodation and restroom facilities for Col. Ashwin Baindur and his wife will be arranged by the IIT Kharagpur SpringFest organizers.

However, we still have additional requirements from the Wikimedia India Chapter. They are mentioned below.

  • Participation certificate to the participants of the Wiki Academy.
  • Award certificate to the winners of the online editing and photography contests.

Fit to strategy

  • Outreach: The event will have result in a strong outreach among the student community of not only IIT Kharagpur, but also students of institutes nearby like KIIT Bhuvaneshwar and others who usually attend the SpringFest 2015.
  • Contribution: The online editing contest in English Wikipedia and online photography contest in Wikimedia Commons have been specifically designed to generate contribution from the participants.
  • Quality: The event is being held in IIT Kharagpur, one of the premier educational institutes of the country. The quality of contribution coming from students of such premier institution can be reasonably expected to be of better quality.
  • Credibility: The guest speech by Col. Ashwin Baindur and the presentation by experienced Wikimedians from the community will definitely help in establishing credibility of the Wikimedia projects among the student community who happen to be one of the most prolific consumers of Wikipedia.
  • Effectiveness: WikiAcademy at IIT Kharagpur will help in establishing the foothold among the educational institutions of the state. Following up on the international conference on Bengali Wikipedia in Kolkata just a couple of weeks ago, it would help maintain the momentum.
  • Sustainability: Association with IIT Kharagpur may be gradually taken up at the institutional level with long term projects which could be mutually beneficial for both.

Other benefits

Participation at the Spring Fest will help establishing the credentials of the Wikimedia projects, the Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia India Chapter among the sponsors and other participating organizations at the event.
