This is a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) asked more frequently to Indian language wikipedians by new users and general public. These FAQs were originally prepared by the Malayalam wikimedia community for the FAQ hand book to distribute it among the participants of the Malayalam wiki workshops that they conduct at various locations. We found that the distribution of FAQ book is a huge success and helped us to clear many misconceptions about the wiki projects among general public. We also distributed this book online.
Now we are translating contents of this Malayalam FAQ hand book to English so that other Indian language wiki communities can use this and prepare their own set of FAQs to distribute it among the speakers of the respective languages.
The following FAQs are provided as a sample. We suggest you to prepare your own set of FAQs based on your requirements. But remember that since our target audience is new users, please do not include questions about complicated policies of wikipedia by citing various acronyms and links. Please keep only those questions that might be asked by a person who want to know about wikipedia and the wiki projects available in his mother tongue . Keep the questions and answers as simple as possible. The idea is to give the new user a general idea about wiki, wikipedia, and the different language wiki projects.
As mentioned above, this is not a word to word translation of the complete Malayalam FAQ hand book. Use these questions as a base and prepare your own questions since the queries faced by each language community are different. But the following questions cover most of the standard FAQs being asked by new users and general public.
Localized FAQ links are available on the top of this page. If you found a redlink for your language, feel free to add translation. If there is no link for your language, click "+/−" to add your language and start translating.
