Events/Wikipedia Workshop at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, Mumbai (Jan, 2013)
An introduction to Wikipedia and Wikimedia workshop was conducted by Karthik Nadar and Manan Shah at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, Mumbai on 26th January 2013.
The workshop was conducted for technology students who were interested to learn about Wikipedia and its sister projects.
Date and Venue
- Date: 26 January 2013
- Venue: Wikipedia Workshop at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology (VIT) (Wadala), Mumbai
- Time: 10:00am to 1:00pm
The workshop was primarily intended for computer science students at VIT.
20 students from Computer science department attended the workshop. I started with the introduction to Wikipedia, and how I ventured, while Manan also shared his experience. The workshop was probably the most interactive one I have ever seen or have conducted.
Most of the attendees have ever registered or have tried to edit, but they said that they always stuck at the syntax, etc. After introduction, we both shared our personal experience and then went a head with further more things like using syntax, references, etc. Though, it was not practical workshop, I showcased them their college Wikipedia article, and did some live edits there. We went ahead on discussing Indic Wikipedia, something which they never knew about.
It was because of some technical problems with the computer laboratory, we couldn't organise the workshop in the lab. However, students said that they really learned a-lot and would organise something similar in a bigger scale soon.
The Wikipedia Mumbai Community here, is thankful to VIT Principal, and the computer science department students for helping us promote the noble cause of free knowledge. Very thanks to Manan Shah, a community member and member at Wikimedia India for assisting with the workshop.
